Photo by John Gola Ozzie Auer and passenger Walt Garnett on a souped-up BMW R50/2 sidehack in the "mudhole" during the 1970 Hopetown Grand Prix in Simi Valley, California. Hopetown was one of the biggest off-road races of the 1960s and 1970s and took place on a 1,600-acre movie set owned by Bob Hope. Ozzie owned a BMW shop in Chico, California and was an avid racer.
